24 Things you May Not Have Known About The 24 Day Challenge
At the turn of the clock, 2015 will be here and gyms will be full, game faces are on, and clean eating is in full force. Maybe you’ve looked at the 24 day challenge and thought it’s not for you. You probably thought that because you stereotyped the program into a liquid diet, makes you run to the bathroom, & only for “fat” people type of thing. Well, that’s not the case.

  1. The 24 Day Challenge is NOT A DIET PILL! Let me repeat, it is NOT A DIET PILL. This program helps you feed muscle and burn fat.

  3. Some dred the Fiber Drink during the challenge. You only drink the fiber drink 6 days out of the 24, and if you mix it with a little juice its easier to get down. I personally ENJOY the Peaches and Cream flavor and used it during my pregnancy!Tip: Just drink it quick!
  4. The challenge isn’t just for people that need to lose weight. There are different product options when choosing your challenge – that’s done on purpose to address YOUR problem. Avocado Deviled Eggs with a kick

One of my FAVORITE things is deviled eggs! Some of us only think of deviled eggs during Easter but it can be a great addition to any event. PLUS the egg has good protein and when you replace the mayo with avocado, you're looking at a much healthier "guilty-pleasure".

Avocado is reach and creamy in texture and is one of the "good fats".  By weight, they have 35% more potassium than bananas and are rich in dietary fiber, folic acid, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin K. Not to mention, they are a good source of B, C and E vitamins and have a high fiber content!


Avocado Deviled Eggs

Ingredients

6 peeled hard boiled eggs
1 ripe avocado peeled and pit removed
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
1-2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes (depending on your spice palette)
2 tablespoons  mustard (i like to use Jalapeno Mustard)
Salt and pepper to taste
Sprinkle finish product with paprika

Instructions

1. Cut eggs lengthwise and remove yolks. Set aside.
2. In a medium bowl combine egg yolks, avocado, lime juice, red pepper flakes, mustard and mash
using a potato masher or two forks until nice and creamy. Alternatively you can add all the ingredients in a food processor and blend. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
3. Add mixture into egg whites with a spoon or pastry bag and garnish with paprika and sliced jalepeno if you'd like.

    Have a thinner Thanksgiving


    The holidays in general are a time of overindulgence and can be nutritional suicide, IF YOU LET IT! But remember, there are plenty of good alternatives and ways to keep yourself in check that won't leave you feeling immobile the next day! Instead of opting out of eating your thanksgiving favorites and quietly munching on a small salad instead, try to find healthy substitutes for classic dishes.

    Here are some suggestions for food swaps you can make on Thanksgiving day. You're mouth will water over these delicious substitutes and you'll end the holiday guilt free. Accomplishing your weight loss and health goals means understanding how to balance your meals and enjoy your favorite holiday foods in moderation.
    • Instead of white potatoes, try yams with the skin on. 
    • Instead of mashed potatoes, try half white potatoes and half pureed cauliflower. 
    • Instead of candied sweet potatoes, try roasted butternut squash
    • Instead of canned cranberry sauce, try cranberry chutney. 
    • Instead of pecan pietry pumpkin pie. 
    • Instead of cheese and cracker appetizers, try cut up veggies, hummus and roasted red pepper dip. 
    • Instead of roasted nuts and trail mix, try raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and pecans. 
    • Instead of beer, try dry red or white wine. 
    • Instead of regular stuffing, try whole grain stuffing.

    This instead of that! Healthy Baking Substitutes

    We are always looking ways to "eat healthier" without giving up some of our favorites. One of the biggest challenges I come across is in baking. SO many recipes call for butter, sugar, eggs, etc.
    Here are some of the top ingredients called for in recipes and healthy alternatives for them. I personally have used avocado as a substitute for a TON of things including one of my former favorites, Alfredo sauce. One of my recent successes (and necessary changes because I had only a sliver of butter) was replacing the call for butter with Greek yogurt. The chocolate chip cookies were light and fluffy and delicious! Make healthy baking choices by substituting oil, butter and sugar for natural ingredients such as avocado and apple sauce for guilt-free desserts you can enjoy any time. Here are seven swaps to get you started:
    7 Healthy Baking Substitutes

    Instead Of: Butter - Use: Avocado or Banana
    Swap bad saturated fat for good monounsaturated fat by substituting butter with creamy pureed avocado. Its butter-like consistency is perfect for baking and provides healthy antioxidants to boot. Mashed bananas also serve as a great fat substitute and will add a little flavor to your recipe. Both options create a softer and chewier treat.
    Instead Of: Sugar - Use: Apple Sauce
    Cut down on added sugar and avoid extra calories by swapping sugar with homemade applesauce. Substitute sugar in a 1:1 ratio and you could save more than 500 calories per cup. Try this smart swap in your favorite oatmeal cookie recipe for a light and fluffy result.
    Instead Of: Canola Oil - Use: Greek Yogurt
    For any recipe that calls for oil, swap it with Greek yogurt for a protein-packed dessert with less fat and calories. Like I mentioned before I replaced butter with this as well. Yogurt is a superstar baking substitute as it works similarly to oil without compromising texture of flavor. Replace half the oil needed in a recipe with ¾’s the amount of yogurt for best results.
    Healthy Baking Substitutes
    Instead Of: Flour - Use: Black Beans
    Go gluten free and add a healthy dose of protein and fiber to your baking by swapping flour for black beans. Perfect for chocolate cake or brownies, rinse and puree one cup of black beans to use in place of one cup of flour and you’ll shave off around 200 calories from your dessert.
    Instead Of: Eggs - Use: Chia Seeds or Applesauce
    Combine one tablespoon of chia seeds with one cup of water and let sit for 15 minutes and you’ll create a gel-like consistency that works as a perfect egg substitute for binding ingredients. Chia seeds also add a healthy dose of omega-3s and fiber to your baking. Applesauce will also do the trick and works well in brownies and cookies.
    Instead of: Chocolate Chips - Use: Cacao Nibs
    For a healthier chocolate treat, opt for cacao nibs instead of chocolate chips. These less-processed morsels cut out additives found in chocolate chips and provide a healthy dose of antioxidants and natural mood lifters. Use these in muffins, cookies and sweet breads.
    Instead Of: Milk - Use: Almond Milk
    Ditch the dreaded dairy and start baking with almond milk for a low fat substitute for those with lactose intolerance. At only 40 calories per serving, it can be used in almost any recipe. I also use this in my morning shakes. Opt for a brand that offers a vanilla flavor to add a hint of vanilla to your baking.

    Eat wise and drop a size by Thanksgiving!



    Many of us get into a holiday slide and convince ourselves of almost ANYTHING during the last quarter of the year. "I'll pay this off right after Christmas" "Johnny won't have a good Christmas unless I get him..." "I won't overeat over the holidays".

    Skinny Chicken Bruschetta

    I was ready for a night of chicken but I was craving a new way to make it. On top of that I was fixated on the less is more approach and wanted to use things I had lying around and needed to use up some cherry tomatoes. Enter chicken bruschetta!

    Both of us enjoyed it. The flavor was soft but delicious! I did substitute the balsamic vinegarette for a red wine vinegarette (that's all I had) but it proved to a good alternative. This is easy and time can be reduced by grilling instead of baking! Give it a whirl!


    Ingredients
    • 3 or 4 chicken breasts
    • 4 or 5 small tomatoes, chopped
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • 1/2 small red onion, chopped
    • 1 tsp. olive oil
    • 1 tsp. balsamic vinegar
    • 1/8. tsp sea salt
    • Handful basil, chopped
    Instructions
    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (if you choose to bake your chicken rather than grill). Sprinkle some salt and pepper over top, cover and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes (depending on the size of your breasts) until juices run clear.
    2. Meanwhile, combine chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt and basil in a bowl. Refrigerate until chicken is ready to be served and spoon over top of the chicken. Enjoy!

    Advocare Meal Replacement SNACKS

    As a mother I'm always looking for ways to get "healthy" into snacks. Not to mention that I myself get bored of the same old routines. I took one of my favorites, the AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shake mix and started searching for ways I could use all the benefits of the nutrition and 1:1 protein to carb ratio and put it into something new and attractive enough to a 7 year old!

    First experiment was combining fall elements with the Pumpkin Protein Cookies. Indulge in this delicious fall treat without feeling guilty!


    Pumpkin Protein Cookies
    1 cup pumpkin puree
    1/4 cup applesauce
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    1 egg
    1 tbsp molasses
    2 T honey or Agave nectar
    2 cups rolled oats
    1/2 cup raisins
    Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine ingredients in a bowl, stirring until well combined. Drop cookies onto baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Makes appx 12 cookies.
    Per Serving: 111 calories, 20 carbs, 2 fat, 5 protein, 16 sodium, 3 fiber


    The second experiment was a new breakfast version of banana oatmeal muffins. These delicious morning treats are great for grabbing on the way out the door or for a kid friendly breakfast! Both my daughter and I give them two thumbs up! Note: I didn't use blueberries but they were yummie without.




    AdvoCare Meal Replacement Muffins 
    1 Egg 
    1 Ripe Banana 
    1 tsp vanilla 
    1/2 cup plain yogurt blueberries to taste 
    1/2 cup oats 
    3 tbsp coconut oil (can use vegetable oil as well)
    1/4 cup whole wheat flour 
    3 tbsp honey 
    Mix all the muffin ingredients together, then pour in greased muffin tin or with paper cups.
    Bake at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. (Mine were in for 20)
